What Does Audi Mean?

2022 Audi Q8 Interior

If you are interested in our new vehicle inventory at Pepe Auto Group, you might be wondering what the history of Audi is. You also might be asking yourself, “what does Audi mean?” The name Audi derives from the Latin translation of August Horsch, who is one of the finders. Since the surname “Horsch” has already been trademarked, they ended up going with the Latin translation of his name to avoid confusion. Learn more about the history of Audi luxury cars and the meaning behind the logo below!

History of Audi

In 1899, Horch & Cie. was founded by August Horch in Cologne. August eventually left the company due to creative differences and founded Audi. In a few years, Audi grew to be an internationally known brand renowned for its winning streak in the Austrian Alpine Runs from 1911 to 1914. Audi became a top luxury brand throughout the first world leading up to the present day.

Audi Logo

The four rings that form the logo represent the four independent motor-vehicle manufacturers known as Horsch, DKW, Audi, and Wanderer. They eventually formed Audi AG in 1932 after officially joining forces.

History of Audi Luxury Cars & Innovation

With the development of the Audi brand, luxury cars became renowned for their innovative technology features such as the Audi quattro® all-wheel drive. This was one of the first permanent all-wheel-drive systems designed for passenger vehicles ever since it was introduced 35 years ago. Since then, the Audi continued to innovate with vehicles and features such as:

  • Audi Sport® – A lineup built to break records, which includes the R8 and the RS models.
  • Audi e-tron® – Provides New Rochelle drivers with an all-electric inventory.
  • Audi MMI®- Enjoy features such as climate control, entertainment, and more with this touchscreen technology.
  • Audi TFSI® – Delivers higher power and fuel economy on Stamford roads by combining direct-injection with forced induction supercharging or turbocharging.
