Luxury Car Winterization Tips

Not sure how to store a car for winter in a way that protects it from cold temperatures? Our expert technicians have developed an ultimate winter storage checklist for your Porsche over the winter. So, what are the steps of how to prep a luxury car for winter? When storing your Porsche for the winter, you will want to:

  1. Prep Your Garage: Sweep the floor of your garage to make sure it is dust-free. You can put down a layer of poly sheeting or a tarp if there is moisture build-up to prevent your vehicle from rusting.
  2. Wash it Inside and Out: Have your car professionally detailed inside and out with coats of wax to protect the exterior paint.
  3. Clean Your Wheels Down Thoroughly: Clean the wheels inside and out and make sure they are free of brake dust. You can rub a coat of petroleum jelly on the wheels to protect your vehicle, then wash it off in the spring.
  4. Condition Rubber/Plastic Items: Use a conditioning compound on all rubber and plastic items on the exterior so they do not crack or crumble.
  5. Change Engine Oil and Filter: Once you change the engine oil and filter, be sure to drive the car to reach the proper temperature.
  6. Top Off all Fluids: Especially antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, and brake fluid.
  7. Ensure Minimum Coolant Protection Level: For water-cooled vehicles, be sure that the coolant levels are around 50% strength and protection down to minus 30 degrees so that your engine block and radiator aren’t damaged.
  8. Check tire pressure – to avoid flat tires, overinflate the tires by approximately 8-10 psi. Make sure to check tire pressure when it isn’t cold outside.
  9. Fill Up the Tank: Fill up your Porsche with premium gas to prevent condensation and reduce tank airspace.
  10. Cover the Exhaust Pipe: Use either a 16 oz keg cup or steel wool to make sure animals don’t make a home inside your exhaust pipe.
