In April of 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration announced ambitious plans to make clean transportation more accessible to drivers across the country. The expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and available EV tax incentives are part of the EV Acceleration Challenge and the Inflation Reduction Act, both of which support the climate goals of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. But what does this mean for Yonkers and New Rochelle drivers? Our team at Pepe Auto Group breaks it all down for you below.
The EV Acceleration Challenge is focused on expediting the nation’s transition to EVs and ensuring accessibility to safe, affordable, and more eco-friendly vehicle options for every citizen. Thousands of new, good-paying jobs will be created in the process. The Challenge sets a clearly defined path to achieving the following goals by 2030:
To meet these goals, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program will fund $5 billion for the EV Acceleration Challenge over the next five years.
The EV Acceleration Challenge and the Inflation Reduction Act plan to accomplish the above goals in two main ways. Here is what they each involve and how they benefit EV owners in Stamford and beyond:
New York is one of at least 35 states that will receive a portion of the NEVI Formula Program funding to increase the number of EV charging stations across the state. Specifically, you can expect to see more charging stations along New York highways in the coming years. This will help make EV charging more accessible to lower-income communities and other populations that have, until now, been underserved by the EV market. And when more people can access EVs and EV charging, air quality will improve.
Under the Inflation Reduction Act, you can also expect new and expanded tax credits when you buy an electric vehicle. There are added incentives if you own and electrify your business or organization’s fleet vehicles, like school buses or delivery trucks; many popular rideshare companies have already committed to growing their EV fleets. And not only will you enjoy more tax credits at the federal level, but you can still take advantage of New York’s tax incentives at the state level, too.
