2023 Federal EV Infrastructure Development: Investing in America Agenda

The Biden-Harris Administration has recently revealed its Investing in America agenda— which has been designed to both increase EV incentives, as well as expand the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The administration has set a goal of creating a network of 500,000 public EV charging stations and having at least 50% of all new vehicle sales be electric cars to help make eco-friendly transportation more accessible to the public. The environmental impact of this is anticipated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52%!
Who’s Taking Part?
Currently, 35 states have been approved to expand and improve EV charging infrastructure across 53,000 miles of highways.
EV Infrastructure Creation
Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CFI Discretionary Grant Program builds on the $5 billion from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program to help speed up the country’s transition to electric vehicles and provide clean, safe, and affordable transportation for all its citizens. This will be completed, in part, through programs like the:
Community Program
The Community Program is dedicating $1.25 billion to increasing EV charging stations, as well as propane, hydrogen, and natural gas fueling infrastructure. These facilities may be located near public roads or areas that are publically accessible. These can include:
- Public schools
- Public buildings
- Public parks
- Parks that are publically accessible, even if owned by a private entity
Corridor Program
Designating another $1.25 billion, the Corridor Program is dedicated to creating EV charging, as well as propane, hydrogen, and natural gas fueling infrastructure along designated AFCs (alternative fuel corridors).
New & Improved EV Tax Credits
Along with increasing EV charging and alternative fuel infrastructure, the Biden-Harris Administration will also add and expand tax credits for purchases of new and pre-owned EVs!
This also extends to EV fleet expansion, with available incentives for electrifying school buses and other heavy-duty vehicles. What’s more, even companies like Uber are joining in, by creating their own plan to reach 400 million EV miles driven on their U.S. platform!
